Lucy Boston stitched the lovely Patchwork of the Crosses in the late 1950’s. She used lovely prints and did the most amazing fussy cutting to create her breathtaking blocks.
She used 2 different shapes…honeycomb and square.

I pieced a Lucy Boston Patchwork of the Crosses a couple years ago though my original was made of Civil War fabrics…I fell for the POTC made from florals, and we have an undying love for florals. (for the blog post featuring my Lucy Boston Patchwork of the Crosses…Jane and Lucy)
Even though I vowed I would never do another Patchwork of the Crosses that floral Patchwork really spoke to me…so after many requests for block kits and a lot of research and math, I decided to do another round of the Lucy potc blocks, but this time I would offer kits for the blocks.
My original Lucy Boston used a lot from my stash (I love working with civil war…it has such a rich history and the final product looks like it has been around for 150 years), so when I set out to pull together another 56 blocks…I decided I would take almost exclusively from the shoppe since I would be doing kits. As determined as I was to use only fabrics found in the shop, some colors just aren’t available or we do not have access to them. So I have dipped into my stash for some of the blocks…so some of these are very limited (8-12 kits available) and cannot be remade once they sell out. I’ll let you know which kits these are when I list them.
Since each block can have between 1 and 4 different fabrics (depending upon fussy cutting) I thought it would be fun to see the various layouts…it’s amazing how different it looks when you move around colors.
**week 35 is a another special week…we are now officially done with 5 rows!
The civil war Lucy block…features prints from the Antebellum collection by Washington Street Studios…I thought we needed to drop in some softer tones…next weeks block will be softer as well.

Each kit will include:
fabric to make at least 1 block (the excess can be added to your lucy stash)
24–1 inch honeycomb papers
4–1 inch square papers (or multiples of 4 depending upon how many 4-patches are fussy cut from the fabrics
pattern card with color layout and cutting instructions
Kits will be $8.

a little extra Lucy Boston info…
I’m using moda bella solid Bunny Hill Pink…it’s almost the color of a smoothie…it’s not bright or too dating to this particular time (though millennial pink is fast becoming my favorite color…other than blue). As for the light background color…I’m thinking of just a plain bella solid bleached white…
here’s the swatch of Bunny Hill Pink…i’ll get to work making a couple of the 4-patches crosses…I can hardly wait.
As for the civil war blocks…my background and accent prints were both from moda…the background is Primitive Gatherings primitive muslin in Tallow and the accent print was fussy-cut from the grey drapery print from Atelier by 3 Sisters. (this particular print has been recolored and shown up in last years Christmas line Snowberry and will show up again in this years Christmas collection by 3 Sisters, however it is not grey.)
Also…as we get nearer the end of the weekly Lucy Boston Patchwork of the Crosses blocks I will be offering a finishing pack of papers and acrylics and finishing kits of the Bella Bunny Hill Pink and Bleached White for your Lucy’s Summer Cottage and the Primitive Tallow muslin for your Civil War Lucy Boston PotC.

The civil war Lucy block…these amazing prints are from my stash…I wanted to add a little of that soft yellow-gold-tan and that color is hard to find. I do really love how that stripe works in the middle. When fussy cutting this make sure to fussy cut 2 rows of 4 placing the honeycomb straight across from each other…that way you can use the square space for your squares.

*This block mixes a classic Fig Tree cream print, with bold April Rosenthal, and tried and true 3 Sisters. The block has a cozy, “grandma” feel to it that I can’t get enough of.

how is everyone doing on their lucy boston patchwork of the crosses? has anyone started putting the rows together? I haven’t but I’ve finally decided on what I’m going to use for my accent print…
