autumn seems to have arrived. a frost warning last night and a brisk morning to start off the first full weekend of october. i love to stitch in the season…whether it is cross stitch or English paper piecing…i think it gives another layer of the magic. whether spooky or joyous…it makes the process extra special. right now i am working on a Halloween hexie project. i am getting so excited to work on it…i’ve spent the last couple days working on “Smell My Feet” by LaDDa, so i’ve neglected my hexies. (I stitched it up for my sister Mel.) I’ll be sure to take a picture of it before it is whisked away to her house on Sunday.
i’m always on the hunt for a new stitch project. i fall down the Pinterest rabbit hole quite often, so now i have 3000+ pictures on my {quilty} board and 4000+ on my English Paper Piecing board. i definitely have the inspiration.
however, there is something to be said for just following a pattern. i am partial to patterns by Karen Styles of Somerset Designs and Susan Smith…both from Australia. Both produce patterns that have a vintage feel to them. Karen Styles designed Star A Day and Mrs. Billings…i’m about half done with Mrs. Billings. Susan Smith designed Stonefields which is hopefully going to be finished up this autumn/winter…after the blocks are sewn together and the flying geese border is added…the last wide border is a solid white with 100+ hexie flowers appliquéd to it. She also designed The Prince and Fleur which are both on my list.
I’ve been kicking around the idea of another quilt using big hexies and pastel florals. And because we have been getting in the most luscious civil war i feel i need to use some of it and have been debating on starting Saint Quentin.
The queen’s folly block is gorgeous…and that checkerboard. the scrappiness makes it perfect for winter stitching and i’m pretty sure i would use civil war so the palette would be rich and cozy. i may have just talked myself into working on this after i finish up my halloween hexie project.

you can take a look at the pattern/paper/acrylic pack here.
i’ve listed a bunch of English paper piecing projects…you can check them out here (EPP section is the first section on the left.)
now…i have a few things to finish up before we close up for the the weekend.
we’ll be back monday with Ellie…Brenda Riddle’s newest collection.
happy stitching!
