good afternoon! hopefully you are enjoying this brisk autumn day.
i thought it was time to introduce our newest English paper pieced project. as a BIG fan of the classic hexagon i knew i wanted to create a project that used 2 jelly rolls (like a double jelly garden). when Yardley House and Love Letters arrived (we had actually requested they ship together so we could do something specific out of them) in early June, it was only a day or 2 later that i reached out to our rep to see if we could secure 20ish strip rolls of each collection. sadly they were no longer available. it was a day or 2 later that mom and i were talking about it, that we decided we could just cut kits since we had the full assortments. so tina set to work cutting up the collections…leaving a few yards of each print. cuz if we are going to go through the work of making it…we need kits to last awhile.
anyways…tina cut and stacked the kits and i set to work on stitching up the hexie flowers. i loved the combination of the 2 collections…especially in hexie flowers. the border was inspired by a vintage flower garden quilt top i purchased at the 2017 Sioux Falls Quilt Show. i had never seen that border before and thought it would be perfect for this quilt.
anyways…i worked diligently on it and finished it in late September. Tina quilted it up for me then i bound and washed it. i had debated on putting a ruffle on 3 sides, but since it is hanging right now i decided i could do that anytime. So…Cottage Gardens finishes at approximately 74 x 85 inches.

we have her kitted up here.
tina doing a little floor move in the civil war section. hopefully you are able to stop by and check it out! also…please keep in mind that our Halloween will be moved out of the front when we decorate for Christmas in 2 weeks which is followed closely by our Hometown Holiday Road Trip.
happy stitching!
